Godelin and Sendora

Fantasy, Romantic |
A lot to do on Godelin and Sendora two. A very colourful vegetation to be set to midnight to enjoy the scenery. You might meet strange animals but they are not dangerous. Take boats, airboat and beach equipment to rez (but clean up after you) from the beach hut, etc.. etc.. You get a notecard upon arrival. |
Sit at the rim of the lakes or float on a lily pad. Touch the shrinking plants, see the Pa'li (horse like animals) eat their meal and don't be frightened when you meet the Angts'ík (giant hammerhead bull) or the scary Nantang. You can even see the impressive Toruk flying above your head. Drink from the trees when you are thirsty, seek shelter in the grotto and visit the floating islands in the sky. There you can hang out in a nice cave, swim in a pool or try out the swing. But nothing is more relaxing then sit on a tree branch gazing at the sunset!

"The sim is loosely based on the mythos created by American horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, particularly the locales in "The Shadow over Innsmouth" and "The Colour Out of Space". You'll be exploring a coastal town in Massachusetts, 1930. The sim is meant to be beautiful and mysterious and a bit lonely. If you choose to roleplay here, keep in mind that many vistors will be tourists, and not neccessarily roleplaying with you!" source from the notecard by Darin Darkes and BaileyMarie Princess

Role play to be defined, there are about 4 notecards provided at the entrance before getting to the sim itself. The visit is worth a story telling task on its own. |

WWI Poetry Sim
14 March 2011
Cybère
|
History / English
|
An M rated sim recreating the Trenches of the WWI, complete with the distant sound of bombing, guns and screams with the occasional rat running round. |
As you walk around you will find voice recordings embedded into ghostly soldiers. These were recorded by veterans of WWI and the image tells you about them. They will tell you about their experiences. You might end up in a mustard gas attack too.
There are also sound boxes that contain recordings and information about WWI poetry from Owen / Sassoon et al, and photography from the time.
As you walk through you will also come across dead ends.

Machu Pichu
|
History |
Thanks to Apr who led the tour. Here you can explore the ruins of one of the "new seven wonders of the world" -- an impressive 3D replica of Machu Picchu, hosted by Universidad de San Martin de Porres from Peru.
|
There are landmarks and notecards around the Sim, to be honest the English needs a bit of proof-reading. There is an amphitheatre with videos and sound files.
In the amphitheatre we read extracts from history.com about the rediscovery of this amazing place and discussed some of the controversies surrounding the removal of artefacts, which led to an interesting discussion on who owns antiquities.

The Royal Wedding
29th April 2011
|
Travey l / Culture |
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Kensington%20W8%20London/75/235/22
You might have heard that there's going to be a Royal Wedding at the end of April. There is an interesting exhibition in the Kensington London sim, It's an interesting sim to explore, with Hyde Park, Marble Arch, The Cenotaph, and you can go for a ride on a Double Decker, etc.
|
Go to the url given and there is some information about the royal couple. Inside the church there is more information on the Royal family, and you can get some wedding paraphernalia.
A visit with your students could stimulate an interesting lesson on the Royal family / wedding traditions etc. There's a coach outside too, although be warned - one of my students got stuck in it!
